Mestre Boneco is one of three founding
mestres of Grupo Capoeira Brasil. He
lives in Los Angeles where he is the
artistic director of Benção Brasil,
a non-profit Brazilian cultural center
that houses Grupo Capoeira Brasil, Los
Angeles. He was awarded his Capoeira
black belt in 1989 by Ginga Association
of Capoeira Bahia, Grupo Cordão de Ouro,
Grupo Senzala and Grupo Capoeira Gerais.
Mestre Boneco's black belt is also recognized
by the Brazilian Capoeira Federation.
Mestre Boneco has been training Capoeira
for 30 years, teaching for 23 of those
years. Today he supervises over 50 instructors
with programs in South America, Australia,
Europe, Asia, and the North America.
In the U.S.A, Capoeira Brasil is in
over 10 major cities. He has organized
and produced over 18 International Festivals
and Batizados; participated in countless
international fitness conferences and
workshops in New York, Boston, Chicago,
Amsterdam, Munich, Paris, Strasbourg,
Nagasaki, Sydney, Milan, Marseille,
and all over Brazil. Mestre Boneco has
been featured on CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC,
and Univision news shows, and Extra
Hollywood, to name a few. He has choreographed
and trained actors for various motion
pictures and national commercials.
In addition to being the director of
the UCLA Capoeira program (in the Department
of Recreation), Mestre Boneco supervises
Capoeira projects in various Los Angeles
public and private schools. His newest
program, ALL ACCESS, will focus on bringing
Capoeira to under-resourced youth in
economically challenged areas.
In 2005 Mestre Boneco, in conjunction
with Paramount and MTV, will launch
his long-awaited 6 DVD workout program
and infomercial. The workout program
fuses elements of traditional Capoeira,
the energy of Brazilian culture, and
the rhythms Brazil, creating a unique
and fun cardio workout for all ages
and fitness abilities.
